Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a group of neurological disorders that can appear in pre-natal, natal and post-natal stage due to various reasons some of which are jaundice or fever in pregnant woman, low birth weight, malnutrition, traumatic brain injury and many more. These causes damage or bring abnormalities in the developing brain of the child which in turn affect the body movement or muscle coordination resulting in disruption of brain to control and maintain posture and balance.

Physiotherapy plays an important role in managing the condition of cerebral palsy. It focuses on function and movement of the child. It approaches to improve, maintain and restore physical and psychological well-being of the child. It works on rehabilitation applications to make sensorial and motor functions normal, provide normal posture and independent functional activity, regulate muscle tone, improve the quality of the existing movements and prevent contracture and deformities.
The physiotherapists assess and evaluate the child’s requirement. Based on this assessment the child is provided required physiotherapy. This involves active and passive exercise for the child. In active exercise the child is made to exercise independently on the instructions of the physiotherapists and in passive exercise the child exercises with the help of the physiotherapists.
